Statement Regarding the Sale of Via Christi Hays to Recovery Care

The Catholic Diocese of Salina is aware of the recent sale of Via Christi Hays to Recovery Care and the questions this transition has raised, particularly regarding the chapel’s sacred space and the sacramentals present within it.

We want to assure our faithful that we are actively engaged in conversations with Recovery Care and are working toward a formal agreement allowing the chapel, including the Altar, Tabernacle, Crucifix, and other sacramentals currently housed there, to remain in place. It is our sincere hope that this sacred space will continue to serve as a place of prayer, peace, and the celebration of the Mass for years to come.

We are grateful to Ascension Via Christi for establishing a strong and enduring Catholic identity at the facility over the years. Their commitment to faith and spiritual care has made a lasting impact on the residents and community.

We also deeply appreciate Recovery Care’s openness and willingness to preserve that Catholic presence. They have been excellent to work with and have expressed strong support for maintaining the Chapel and continuing to offer Mass. While we understand concerns about changes that can occur during transitions like this, we are optimistic that with mutual understanding and goodwill, we can establish a clear agreement that ensures a continued future for the Chapel and the continuation of spiritual care.

We will keep the community informed as these conversations progress and remain committed to supporting the ongoing faith life of the residents and families served at this location.
