Today we share a special episode of “From the Heart” lead by Fr. Gale Hammerschmidt to remember Sr. Barbara Ellen. -Years ago, Bishop Weisenburger arranged a Vocations Rosary and asked Sr. Barb to lead one decade. Many have asked if we could share this audio since her unexpected passing a few weeks ago. We hope you enjoy listening to the voice of Sr. Barb and join us as we pray for the repose of her soul and thank God for her life

Sister Barb passed away on June 26, 2021. She was born in a boxcar in Austria as her parents were in route from Hungary to Germany. She lived in Germany for 6 years and then moved to Aurora, Illinois where she grew up in the Rockford Diocese and attended Sacered Heart Grade School where the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia taught. She entered the convent in Concordia and went to Marymount College where she received a degree in Theology and also went to Mundelein College in Chicago to study theology. Sister Barb served as a Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Michael’s Parish in Fairbury, Nebraska, Seven Dolors Parish in Manhattan, Kansas, and St. Mary Queen of the Universe Parish in Salina, Kansas. Later she served in a new concept of ministry called Team Ministry with another sister and three priests in 6 parishes in western Kansas. She has a deep love for the youth and young adults in our diocese who have touched her heart in a very special way.
