It is with deep sorrow and concern that we learned of a scheduled event in the state capital of Topeka, a so-called “Black Mass,” that is planned to take place outside of the Capitol Building on March 28, 2025. The organizers intend to desecrate a consecrated host, the Holy Eucharist, in a profoundly sacrilegious act that strikes at the core of our Catholic faith and deeply offends God.
We urge you to join us in responding to this serious situation with earnest prayer and fasting. We are called to engage in spiritual battle, standing firm against the forces of evil that aim to weaken our faith and desecrate what is most sacred to us.
Let us remember the words of St. Paul: “For we are not struggling against flesh and blood, but against principalities, the powers, and the cosmic rulers of this present darkness, and against the spirits of evil in the heavens.” (Ephesians 6:12)
To provide a focused time for prayer and solidarity, Bishop Gerald Vincke has organized a holy hour and Mass to take place at the same time on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina. This event will begin with a Eucharistic Holy Hour at 11:00 a.m. followed by Mass celebrated by Bishop Vincke at 12:10 p.m. If your schedule allows, you are encouraged to attend either the Mass in Salina or another parish in the Diocese. Bishop Vincke has also encouraged the priests of the Diocese of Salina to host a holy hour and Mass in their local parishes.
The Catholic Church calls upon the faithful to respond with peaceful prayer. Our response should be focused toward prayers for repentance and conversion. We must not allow ourselves to be provoked to anger or violence, as that would be cooperation with the devil. We must approach this situation with all confidence in God’s ultimate victory over Satan, sin and death. “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).
How you can respond:
- Pray: Recite the Individual Consecration Prayer to consecrate yourself to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pray for the repentance and conversion of those participating in the satanic worship event.
- Worship: A Eucharistic Holy Hour will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 28th, followed by Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Vincke. All are welcome to join us in prayer.
- Take Action: Contact Governor Kelly to express concern and ask that this event be disallowed by visiting https://www.kansascatholic.org/issues/active-campaigns
- Serve Others: Spread Christ’s love through acts of charity on March 28, with service opportunities available via Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas and other community organizations.
Let us, as a united Body of Christ, lift our voices in prayer and our hearts in supplication. May our fasting and prayer be a powerful witness to our unwavering faith in the face of this spiritual attack.
