Bishop's Office
Vigil: As you are probably aware, Halloween (Hallow, meaning holy) and Eve (meaning evening) celebrates the vigil of All Saints Day tomorrow.  This morning, I celebrated Mass at St. Mary’s Grade School, and it was a blessing to see the students dress up as Saints.  On another note, I pray that all our children remain safe and sound this evening and enjoy all the candy given to them!St. Nicholas:  Many years ago, I was with a religious sister who asked the students if the saints are in heaven.  One 2nd grader replied, “all of them except one.”  She asked, “which one?” He replied, “St. Nicholas, he’s at the North Pole.” Good response! Same stuff:  I remember a priest asking students, “Did the saints have a heart, a brain, hands and feet.”  They replied, ‘yes.’  He then asked the students, “Do you have a heart, a brain, hands and feet.” They replied yes. He responded, “the saints are like us. And we can become a saint too.” Day: As a reminder, All Saints Day is not a holy day of obligation this year, owing to the 1992 decision of the USCCB abrogating the precept to attend Mass when November 1 falls on a Saturday or Monday. Souls: This weekend we will celebrate All Souls Day.  What a blessing it is to remember and pray for our loved ones who have gone before us. We never forget those who have gone before us. And neither does God.  Holy Fire: Tomorrow I will be with 300 young people at the Holy Fire Conference in Hays. Come Holy Spirit! May they always have fire for Jesus and know His love for them.NCYC: Our diocese has more than 700 people attending the National Catholic Youth Conference.  And our Pope is going to ZOOM in with us. So excited to be with so many people from our diocese. If you want to join the conversation with Pope Leo from home register for the “Digital Experience” on the NCYC Website HERE.USCCB:  I will be at the fall meetings in Baltimore with the bishops for several days in November.  Come Holy Spirit! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families.  I think most of us are thankful to God for all the rain that has been given to us.With my love and prayers,Bishop Vincke
Some spiritual inspiration. The Feast of Christ the King is November 23, the last Sunday of Ordinary Time before we start the new liturgical year with the 1st Sunday of Advent on November 30.  Many faithful have a devotion to “Christ the King of All Nations,” which involves praying for Christ’s kingship to be recognized and honored in the world. The following are some quotes on Christ the King.“Christ, has dominion over all creatures, a dominion not seized by violence nor usurped, but His by essence and by nature.” ~ St Cyril of Alexandria (376-444) Father & Doctor of the Church“Jesus Christ -You have heard Him spoken of, indeed the greater part of you are already His – you are Christians. So, to you Christians I repeat His name, to everyone I proclaim Him – Jesus Christ is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. He is the king of the new world. He is the secret of history. He is the key to our destiny.” ~ St Pope Paul VI (1897-1978)“When did Jesus reveal Himself as king? In the event of the Cross!” ~ Pope Francis (1936 – 2025)
