A Pastoral Statement on the Recent Immigration Enforcement in Minnesota from Archbishop Shawn McKnight, Bishop Carl Kemme, and Bishop Gerald Vincke
Together as Diocesan Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Kansas, we ask our clergy and faithful to join us in solidarity with Archbishop Bernard Hebda and the local church of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis as they bear witness to the peace of Christ and the dignity of every human life. We mourn with them over the turmoil, division, and violence that is inflaming their community. We encourage you to read this statement from Archbishop Hebda. We are deeply sorrowful for the tragic loss of life and fervently pray for peace, unity, and mutual respect among our brothers and sisters, especially immigrants, law enforcement, and those burdened by fear, grief, or uncertainty throughout our country.
The American people entrust our elected leaders with the responsibility to enact policies and take actions to promote the safety and well-being of all. At the same time, immigrants who are in our country fleeing violence and hostility, or who are simply trying to forge a better life for their families, deserve a fair, transparent, and efficient process as they seek entry — a standard our current immigration system, overwhelmed and in dire need of reform, regrettably fails to meet. Treating immigrants and refugees with dignity and respect serves our common good and honors not only their human dignity and inalienable rights but our own human dignity and rights. We ask our political leaders and government officials to earnestly pursue comprehensive immigration reform with just prudence and compassionate respect for human dignity, so that justice and mercy may walk together for the good of all.
As Catholics, we must advocate for solutions rooted in charity and compassion rather than fear and anger. We see every person created in the image and likeness of God, whom Christ loves and for whom he sacrificed his own life on Calvary. We are called to be catalysts of reconciliation rather than instruments of division.
May the wisdom of the Holy Spirit guide the hearts and actions of all who navigate these complex issues, so that in Christ, who makes all things new, justice and peace may reign in our great nation.

Como obispos diocesanos de la Iglesia Católica Romana en Kansas, pedimos a nuestro clero y a nuestros fieles que se unan a nosotros en solidaridad con el Arzobispo Bernard Hebda y la iglesia local de la Arquidiócesis de Saint Paul y Minneapolis, mientras ellos dan testimonio de la paz de Cristo y de la dignidad de toda vida humana. Lamentamos junto con ellos la agitación, la división y la violencia que están inflamando a su comunidad. Les animamos a leer esta declaración del Arzobispo Hebda. Estamos profundamente entristecidos por la trágica pérdida de vidas y oramos fervientemente por la paz, la unidad y el respeto mutuo entre nuestros hermanos y hermanas, especialmente los inmigrantes, las fuerzas del orden y todos aquellos que están cargados de miedo, dolor o incertidumbre en todo nuestro país.
El pueblo estadounidense confía a nuestros líderes electos la responsabilidad de promulgar políticas y tomar acciones que promuevan la seguridad y el bienestar de todos. Al mismo tiempo, los inmigrantes que están en nuestro país huyendo de la violencia y la hostilidad, o que simplemente buscan forjar una vida mejor para sus familias, merecen un proceso justo, transparente y eficiente al buscar ingresar — un estándar que nuestro sistema migratorio actual, sobrecargado y con urgente necesidad de reforma, lamentablemente no logra cumplir. Tratar a los inmigrantes y refugiados con dignidad y respeto sirve a nuestro bien común y honra no solo su dignidad humana y sus derechos inalienables, sino también nuestra propia dignidad y derechos humanos. Pedimos a nuestros líderes políticos y funcionarios gubernamentales que busquen con sinceridad una reforma migratoria integral con prudencia justa y un respeto compasivo por la dignidad humana, para que la justicia y la misericordia caminen juntas para el bien de todos.
Como católicos, debemos abogar por soluciones arraigadas en la caridad y la compasión, en lugar de basadas en el miedo y la ira. Vemos a cada persona creada a imagen y semejanza de Dios, a quien Cristo ama y por quien sacrificó su propia vida en el Calvario. Estamos llamados a ser catalizadores de reconciliación en lugar de instrumentos de división.
Que la sabiduría del Espíritu Santo guíe los corazones y las acciones de todos los que enfrentan estos temas complejos, para que en Cristo, quien hace nuevas todas las cosas, la justicia y la paz puedan reinar en nuestra gran nación.
