Job Description for Communications Director for Diocese of Salina

The director of communications will provide effective management of all communications to and from the chancery.  This will include public information, media relations, diocesan publications both digital and printed, website updates, Catholic radio stations and all other forms of communications the bishop deems credible. The director will also supervise other members of the communications staff which include an editor of the diocesan newspaper and the manager of the website.

Job Duties:

  • --Keep current and accurate information on the diocesan website, social media, phone apps and other forms of communication approved by the bishop.
  • --Maintain working knowledge of the ever changing digital age.
  • --Work closely with all members of the curia concerning newsworthy events and activities.
  • --Recognize that communication is a vital part of evangelizing both Catholics and non-Catholics.
  • --Attend monthly curia meetings.
  • --Help create documents, posters, flyers and other communication needs for chancery offices and parishes throughout the diocese.
  • --Work with the bishop, vicar general and chancellor in developing and implementing communication strategies.
  • --Make presentations to clergy, schools and parishes on how to improve communication avenues within the diocese.
  • --At the bishop’s direction, serve as spokesperson for the diocese in issues of urgency, sensitivity, or controversy.  Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications needed:

  • --Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the church.
  • --Must have knowledge of, understanding, and commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church, and be able to articulate these teachings.
  • --Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with the bishop, chancery personnel, parishes and schools.
  • --Must be a confident and articulate speaker.
  • --Have strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills.
  • --Must have the creativity to produce informative and engaging videos and other forms of digital communications.
  • --Have a minimum of three years of experience in the communications field and a bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field.

PRINCIPAL GRADES 1-8: St. John’s Catholic School is accepting applications for the position of principal. Projected enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year is 95, grades 1-8. There are seven full-time and two part-time professional staff members. Applicants must be practicing Roman Catholics, have a master’s degree, provide evidence of three years of successful teaching and/or school administrative experience, hold or meet the requirements for a Kansas principal’s certificate.
