Arthur (Art) Befort is a retired aviator now farming in Smith County, Kansas. He was born and raised a catholic farm boy in Smith County. After high school he served four years in the United States Air force; followed by a 40 year technical and pilot career in civil aviation. After retiring in 2012 he moved back to Smith County where he farms 400 acres, adhering to strict conservation practices incorporating a No-Till Farming System.
Art is a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Smith Center, Kansas. Art volunteers his time on several church and local civic organizations and serves as President of Salina Diocese Catholic Rural Life Commission. He is a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas, with a bachelor’s degree in business management.
Arthur is married to wife Linda, 51 years; he has three children and nine grandchildren. Art and Linda often say they have come full circle; there home in Smith Center is 200 feet from the old hospital where they were both born.
