Youth Ministry

The Office of Youth Ministry assists the Christian community in ministering to, with, by and for youth.  Its goals are:  fostering the total personal and spiritual growth of youth and young adults;  and drawing youth and young adults toward responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the faith community.  The office provides resources, retreats, rallies, conferences, camp, training and in-services.

Youth Ministry and Religious Education Permission/Health Forms are now fillable on your computer. (See Docs on left hand side of this page) Just open the form you want and fill it in.  The signatures can not be computer generated so the forms will still need to be printed and signed in the appropriate places and given to the appropriate Sponsor.  It is our hope that this will ease the time it takes to fill out the forms for activities that your youth partake in.

Mark your calendars now for our Diocesan CYO Convention on March 31-April 1, 2012, at Salina South High School. Our guest speaker will be Mike Patin of Lafayette, Louisana. Mike uses energy, humor and stories to affirm the goodness of God's presence among us while inviting others (and himself) to take the "next step" in our journey with God.  He has had the privilege of speaking in over 115 dioceses in the U.S. and Canada, to groups ranging from 10 to 10,000.  He has addressed youth, adult and inter-generational (family) audiences in diocesan, regional, national and  international settings.  Full details of our Diocesan Convention will be sent in January, 2012 with registration material.

Prayer & Action is a summer mission program which is a valuable opportunity for high school youth to gain a deeper perspective of their faith through the service of others.

The program is designed to help those who are in need and are having a hard time helping themselves.  The work that will be done will consist mostly of painting, minor repair jobs, yard work and children's ministry.

Designated prayer times and daily Mass are part of the activities.

UPDATES

There are some changes this year in regards to Prayer and Action.  Students who are in High School this year, 2011-2012, are eligible to attend all weeks listed except June 3-8 week which is reserved for College age students (youth who graduated from high school before 2011-2012 school year).

REGISTRATION: Pre-registration involves turning in the P&A Registration sheet, P&A Registration listing, Health Forms: Youth- Forms B, C, D, HIPAA, Photo Waiver. Adult Forms A, E, K need to filled in and returned with the other forms, along with half of the per person fee which is non refundable/non transferable.  In the past there have been groups who reserve large numbers of spaces for a given week.  When the reserved week came around their group was considerably smaller.  The spots could have been filled if we had a more accurate number.

SPONSORS: The diocese has worked with the insurance company, Catholic Mutual of Omaha, to change the age for adult sponsors.  They have stated that adult sponsors must be 25 years old and older.   If you are having difficulty getting adult sponsors for the entire week you can have 2 sponsors who share the week, one for the first few days and the other for the rest of the week.
