The Diocesan Planning Commission, established by Bishop Coakley early in 2008, completed its task in Russell, Kansas on February 19, 2010 after nearly two years of meetings, consultations, and revisions. The final product is the fifth and final draft of Stewards of Hope: A Pastoral Plan for the Diocese of Salina. It can be found in the documents box on the left side of this page.
The next phase is implementation. A diocesan assembly is planned for June 6, 2010 (Feast of Corpus Christi) at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas to inaugurate the pastoral plan and begin implementation. The assembly begins at 1:00 and includes music, motivational speakers, spiritual talks, a Eucharistic procession, and Mass at the new Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. The Mass will be followed by ethnic food booths (German, Mexican, Czech, Vietnamese, and American) prepared by various parish communities in the diocese. Implementation will follow.
In March 2010, Bishop Coakley established a Diocesan Implementation Committee to oversee implementation. Behind the scenes work will begin immediately and continue after the Diocesan Assembly until the end of the year. Public implementation in the diocese and parishes will be initiated at the beginning of 2011.
